Hatch Live, our experience and activation arm, just completed a fortnight tour of the UK on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK to promote its March for Men walks and raise awareness of the charity.
The seven-city tour featured a unique travelling installation, which was unveiled during national walking month, and was made up of eight eye-catching statues. Standing two-metres tall, seven of the giant ‘Men’ were coloured blue, while the eighth replicated the charity’s iconic ‘Man of Men’ logo in black and white. This represented the shocking statistic that 1 in 8 men in the UK will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.
To add an interactive element, the black and white statue at the forefront of the display was equipped with audio functionality and shared voice recorded interviews of those who have been affected by the disease in the respective local city, allowing the public to listen to the heartfelt accounts of how the illness had affected other local families.
As well as developing the creative of the build and management of the events, we were responsible for the press office around the campaign and set up interviews in each city with local case study representatives. We had an amazing amount of interest in the campaign, with over 41 pieces of coverage over the two weeks and an OTS of over 8 million! We had interviews covered by BBC1 East Midlands, BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio Nottingham and BBC Radio Manchester, as well as across a number of print and online titles.
At the events, we were on hand to encourage passers-by to take pictures of the installation, talk to specialists from the charity about the disease, and sign up to take part in their local March for Men, which now has more than 4,000 people signed up – smashing our target of 2,000!
Although it involved a lot of early morning set-ups and very late evening breakdowns, it was very humbling to help such a great cause and we had an incredible amount of interest from both the public and press in every city. We were overwhelmed by the number of people who knew someone who had been affected by the disease in some way and came over to thank the team for spreading the word.
An amazing project and a wonderful team at Prostate Cancer UK to work with. We’re looking forward to our wrap up drinks later in the month and taking part in the Leeds March for Men, not so excited that the drinks take place on the eve of the walk!
