Leeds-based integrated PR agency, Hatch, has been brought onboard to execute a national campaign on behalf of The English Football League (EFL) and Mind for World Mental Health Day 2019.
Goals Worth Talking About saw Hatch work closely with the EFL, Mind and a number of EFL clubs, whose fan bases voted for their most iconic EFL moment; each chosen moment was then immortalised as street art in their respective cities.
The campaign is the latest activity by the EFL and Mind, who are currently in Year Two of their ground-breaking charity partnership, which aims to improve the nation’s mental health and wellbeing as well as the approach to mental health in football.
The murals have appeared all around England and Wales with the aim of highlighting how football is often a conversation starter, and the importance of talking when it comes to mental health support.
World Mental Health Day on the 10th October will see the culmination of the week-long street art marathon. Starting in Sunderland last week, working south through Leeds, Preston, West Bromwich, Cardiff, Bristol and ending at Leyton Orient, eight pieces of individual art have been produced in locations near the club stadiums.
An exhibition of the artwork will be open to the press today (1oth October 2019), with representatives from the EFL and Mind on-hand to discuss the potential impact of the campaign and wider objectives of the partnership.
Matt Peden, Director at Hatch said: “What better way to get people talking than fantastic, memorable and game-changing goals. Its such a strong topic and we’re delighted to be working with the EFL and Mind on this innovative project ahead of World Mental Health Day.”
Melissa Fenlon, PR Manager at the EFL said: “We are extremely proud of our charity partnership with Mind and we are pleased to have worked together on a successful campaign to highlight the challenges around mental health on World Mental Health Day.
“Hatch have been pivotal in helping us to tell the story of our partnership and highlight how football is often a conversation starter, yet we struggle to talk about our mental health. It has been a great next step in our partnership as we aim to continue to encourage conversations and improve the approach to mental health in both football and in the wider society.”
