When we launched the first Hatch Checked In travel trends report last month, we explored what motivates travellers in 2026 and one thing became instantly clear. People no longer travel to simply get away. We are seeking experiences that make us feel something, that make us connect on a deeper level and that make us feel like a better version of ourselves once we return.
So, for the second edition, we wanted to take that thinking a step further.
Checked In: Destination & Travel Trends delves a little deeper into the forces that are shaping where people are choosing to go, and more importantly, why. Because while there’s still a role for traditional holiday hotspots, we’re seeing an increasingly growing appetite from travellers to visit destinations that are offering something a little more personal. From cooler climates, slower experiences, stronger local connections and the opportunity to pursue hobbies, skills and interests that make us, well, us.
The report explores how destination choice is becoming increasingly emotional and experience-led, plus how this is manifesting into trends that honestly are here to stay. Including the rise of the ‘coolcation’ and mountain escapes being dubbed ‘peak escapism’, as well as food and fan-led travel, and a renewed focus on wellbeing.
What we find particularly interesting, is the duality we’re seeing at play. Not only are travellers wanting independence, but also connection. We want to discover somewhere new but also retain a sense of familiarity. We want to switch off, but in a way that sings to our passions and interests that make us who we are.
This creates a powerful opportunity for the travel industry. It’s time to expand horizons from simply where people want to go, but how do they want it to make them feel?
That’s what this report uncovers. Download it below.
