November has been a big month for us here at Hatch, we said farewell to the Glass Box of Emotion and hellooooo to the brand spanking shiny new Hatch HQ!

November also brought us the battle of Christmas adverts, so we thought it was time to delve into some of this year’s festive faves, which of course includes the return of Kevin the Carrot!

Excitable Edgar gets a big thumbs up

In their first-ever joint Christmas campaign, John Lewis and Waitrose have come together to create an advert which tells the heartwarming story of a little girl and her friendship with an excitable young dragon.

Titled ‘Excitable Edgar‘, the heartwarming advert centres around the theme of bringing people together at Christmas time through delicious food and thoughtful gifts, to show loved ones how much you care. The advert is John Lewis back to their much-loved storytelling ways, and the Excitable Edgar plush toy was predictably a sell-out.

A quick office poll saw that Edgar was a big hit with a massive 90% giving the adorable dragon a thumbs up!

McDonalds Brings Back Archie the Reindeer

McDonald’s has continued its Reindeer Ready campaign and this year introduces ‘Archie the Reindeer’ to the world – a delightful reindeer brought alive by a little girl’s imagination. As the nation’s hearts melted over the advert, McDonald’s announced it was giving away magical storybooks for free, queue more media coverage as well as publicity for its new festive menu, including a Camembert Cheese Melt Dippers Sharebox…mmmm melted cheese!

Walkers Enlist the Help of Singing Sensation Mariah Carey

For this year’s Christmas ad Walkers Crisps enlisted the help of US superstar Mariah Carey and her Christmas favourite ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ which celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year.

The comedic ad, which is the brands biggest Christmas push to date, sees Mariah go off script and embroiled in a tug of war with a hungry elf for the last bag of Walkers new Pigs in Blankets flavour on set.

I think Mariah’s diva antics tipped this to be my personal festive favourite.

The Return of Kevin the Carrot is back in Leafy Blinders

Supermarket chain Aldi has brought back Kevin the Carrot for an epic Christmas ad featuring music from Robbie Williams, with the incredible rework ‘Let Me Aldi-tain You’.

This year’s advert begins with the sprouts gathering round Kevin to teach him a lesson. They’ve heard he’s planning on putting on a massive Christmas show and they want to put a stop to it.

Luckily Kevin manages to escape the sprouts’ clutches with the help of Tiny Tom and deliver his ‘Christmas Spectacular.’ Katie and the kids make a reappearance, along with a whole cast of new characters. Once again Aldi knocked it out of the park!

The best of the rest…

In other, non-Christmas advert related news, EasyJet has launched its first multimillion-pound campaign to highlight the range of destinations and hotels available through easyJet Holidays. The campaign is essentially one massive game of hide of seek to show off its vast range of European getaways, but it does look fun!

Also, back by popular demand Cadbury’s pop-up post office is back for another year! The Cadbury Secret Santa postal service will travel to Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Norwich and Southampton so keep your eyes peeled to surprise any chocolate lovers.

We hope you enjoyed this month’s roundup, be sure to come give us a visit next month for more of the latest stories from the world of PR, Social Media, Events and Sponsorship
